In Class Ethics Consideration

Our example was the Ford Pinto. The Pinto was criticized for having a major design flaw that jeopordized the safety of its passengers. The Pinto, if hit from behind at the right angle, could explode due to the fuel tank being punctured. The Ford Motor Co. refused to redesign or recall the car. They decided it was more financially efficient to pay for the lawsuits that could arise from this problem rather than change the design of the car. As a result, Ford faced many lawsuits and criminal charges.
